The Modern Age of Almuñécar, 16th century. Almuñécar was reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1489, just over two years before the final fall of the city of Granada, capital of the Kingdom of the same name, which was the last Muslim stronghold on the Iberian Peninsula.
